Obituary

Joe Barnes Jr. was born August 29, 1935 to Joe Barnes and Dora Lee Stepps in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 1956 he was drafted into the army and served loyally and diligently for the next 20 years until his retirement in 1976. During this time he and his wife Marlene travelled the world with their family.

After his retirement from the Army, Joe went on to work as a Counsellor at the Monterey County YMCA, then as a Community Relations Representative for Goodwill Industries of Monterey. He completed his career as a Child Development Program Technician at Vandenberg Air Force Base and retired in 2002. However, those that knew Joe, knew he would not stay idle. After moving to the Santa Clarita Valley, he got a job as a greeter at WalMart to stay busy. It was the perfect job for him for three years until he retired for good.

Joe was very social, enjoyed people, had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great kidder. He also enjoyed watching all sports including football, basketball, and boxing. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent watching golf with his beloved, late wife, Marlene. They were both huge fans of Tiger Woods.

Joe will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren and many siblings. However, we are all comforted by the fact that he is no longer in pain and has been reunited in heaven with the love of his life.

I will miss you dad. I wished we had more time together. I am sure Uncle Earle, Maxan, Kim, Michael, Terry, Greg and all your grandchildren are as heartbroken as I am. I will try to establish relationships with them. Love, Pamela
